Points are the primary measure in most leagues: three for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss. Tables also show games played, helping identify teams with matches in hand.
Goal difference is goals scored minus goals conceded. It is not always the first tiebreaker: some competitions use head-to-head results according to their official rules.
